The invention refers to a variety of kidney bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) named Vera, created by sexual hybridization between the DN 30/82 line and the Chief variety, followed by individual selection that is repeated yearly, until the F5 generation. This variety is designed for human consumption; its plants are characterised by semi-determined growth, are 50-80 cm tall and erect at maturity, and have the appearance of a compact shrub. The leaves are three-lobed, with green average sized leaflets. The flowers are white and are grouped 2-4 together at the raceme. The pods are 8.0-11.0 cm long, and 0.6-1.0 cm wide, have white small elliptical seeds that are slightly kidney-shaped, and the mass is 190-220 g per 1000 beans. The bean is resistant to bacteriosis and anthracnose, to shaking and to the breaking of the beans. The protein substance content varies between 23.6 and 28.5 percent and the boiling properties of the beans are very good. The average production of beans is 1670-1830 kg/ha and the maximum production is over 3000 kg/ha. It is recommended for cultivation in Transylvania and in Moldavia.
