PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogel releasing or producing NO, and most preferably photopolymerizable macromer capable of releasing physiological amounts of NO over a long time, and to provide a manufacturing method of a biodegradable hydrogel. SOLUTION: The hydrogel is formed from the macromer, which preferably include biodegradable regions, and has bound thereto a group that is released in site to elevate or to otherwise modulate a NO concentration at the site where medical treatment is needed. The macromer can form a homo or hetero- dispersion or solution, which is polymerized to form a polymer material, that in the latter case can be a semi-interpenetrating network or an interpenetrating network. A compound to be released can be physically entrapped, covalently or ionically bound to the macromer. The hydrogel can be formed by ionic and/or covalent crosslinking. |
