<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer, with which a molded container excellent in appearance, gas barrier, and strength can be obtained. <P>SOLUTION: The copolymer is an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer containing a structural unit represented by the following formula (1) and is preferably obtained by copolymerizing 3,4-diacetoxy-1-butene, vinylester-based monomer, and ethylene. Furthermore, the copolymer is obtained by saponifying a copolymer obtained by copolymerizing 3,4-diacyloxy-1-butene, vinylester-based monomer, and ethylene.
