<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide hydrophobizing heat treatment methods for carbon for improving the hydrophobicity of carbon without lowering the conductivity. <P>SOLUTION: In the first method, the hydrophobicity of carbon is improved by heat-treating the carbon in an atmosphere of hydrogen or ammonia. In the second method, the hydrophobicity of carbon is improved by heat-treating the carbon in an atmosphere where an inert gas selected from nitrogen, argon and helium is mixed with at least one of hydrogen and ammonia. Heat treatment temperatures in the first and second methods are preferably ≥500°C. The carbons used in the first and second treatment methods may be mixed with a resin such as a thermosetting resin, a thermoplastic resin or natural rubber. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
