PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus where the use state of a consumable unit can be appropriately managed, whether the consumable unit is replaced or not. SOLUTION: When the power is turned on, or when the consumable unit is loaded, whether the consumable unit is replaced is determined by a determination means 100. When determined that the consumable unit 10 is replaced, a parameter stored in a memory 22 of the consumable unit 10 and showing the consumption degree of the consumable is compared with a parameter stored in a storage means 103 of the image forming apparatus 1, and the larger parameter is written as the present parameter in place of the smaller parameter. When determined that the consumable unit 10 has been replaced, the parameter stored in the consumable unit 10 is written as the present parameter in the storage means 103.
