The cooling system for electric machines is designed especially for turbine generators. The rotor has a winding with cooling ducts, located along the coils, in grooves made along the entire rotor drum and spaced radially on the circumference of the drum. The stator has radial ducts, located along the entire length of the core. The cooling gas, passing along the axial ducts of the rotor winding, is released into the air gap between the rotor cylinder and the stator core through the radial ducts, located across the winding, the insulation layers and the wedge, which secures them along the axis of each groove in the rotor cylinder. In the gap, the gas mixes with the cooling gas released simultaneously from all radial ducts of the stator core and is forced by the axial exhausting ventilators fixed to the rotor shaft outside the shield to flow in two directions along the air gap to reach the ends of the rotor cylinder, and further on to the respective coolers, as described in patent claim No. 168 834. It is characterised in that within the length of the first front zones of the rotor (1), the gas cooling both sides flows exclusively along the axial ducts (7) of the rotor (1) winding (3). Then, it is released into the air gap (13) through the radial ducts (9''), located exclusively in the end part of the zone. The same gas is fed into the axial ducts (7) of the winding (2) in the successive rotor (1) cooling zones through the sub-grooves (8) - located in the bottom of the grooves (2) of the first, or eventually the next, cooling zone - and through the radial ducts (9'), made radially in the winding (3), at the beginning of the relevant zone and extended downwards. The gas is released into the air gap (13) through the radial ducts (9'') in the winding (3), in the vicinity of the relevant cooling zone, but always - irrespective of the number of cooling zones - with respect to the last cooling zone, located in the vicinity of the machine centre. |
