PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an orthopaedic implant with a porous load bearing member held within a surface-to-surface cavity formed in the implant's body that projects outwardly away from an exterior surface of the implant.SOLUTION: An orthopaedic implant 100 includes an implant body 102 having a first surface 104 with a first peak, a second surface 106 opposite the first surface 104, and a cavity formed in the body of implant 100, the cavity extending through the first surface 104 and second surface 106. The implant body 102 is substantially non-porous. A load bearing member comprising a substantially porous material is held within the cavity. The load bearing member has a first contact surface 116 that extends out of the cavity past the first peak of the first surface 104.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 27 |
