PURPOSE:To provide an air-passable refractory for continuous casting, remarkably improved in spalling resistance required by the air-passable refractory and capable of stably blowing gases for a long period. CONSTITUTION:An air-passable refractory is completed by paying attention to responsiveness to prescribed properties as an air-passable refractory for continuous casting by utilizing characteristics such as viscoelasticity, preventive effects on crack growth and oxidation resistance possessed by mesophase carbon. The refractory is composed of 1-10wt.% mesophase carbon, 5-30wt.% carbonaceous component other than the mesophase carbon, 50-90wt.% alumina and <=10wt.% SiC. The refractory is capable of performing stable gas blowing as compared with that of conventional refractories due to excellent thermal shock and corrosion resistance without containing silica and causes no abnormality such as crack, etc., due to the excellent thermal shock resistance. Since the refractory is capable of exhibiting excellent performance for a long period together with the excellent corrosion resistance, stability of casting quality can be improved. |
