When a connecting terminal (12) is to be inserting into a housing (14), a rear holder (13) is inserted into the housing halfway and is positioned at a provisionally engaged position. In this condition, connecting terminal (12) having electric wires (11) connected thereto are inserted into terminal receiving chambers (32) of the rear holder (13) one by one, and a terminal connecting portion (21) of a connecting terminal (12) is pushed between a rear retaining portion (37) and an inclined surface (34b, 43c). When the connecting terminal (12) is further pushed, a front edge of the terminal connection portion (21) is urged against a front retaining portion (36a, 36b) to restrict a forward movement of the connecting terminal (12). In this state, a rear edge of the terminal connecting portion (21) has passed over the rear retaining portion (37). Then, the connecting terminal (12) is pushed down, a rear portion of the connecting terminal (12) is moved downward, a lower surface of the terminal connecting portion (21) is brought intimate contact with a terminal supporting portion (33), a clad clamping portion (23) is substantially urged against a lower step portion (38), and the rear edge of the terminal connecting portion (21) is retained by the rear retaining portion (37). From this condition, the rear holder (13) is further pushed into a completely engaged position, and an upper surface of the terminal connecting portion (21) is pressed against a parallel surface (43a) of a top wall (43) and the front edge of the terminal connecting portion (21) is engaged by the front retaining portion (36a, 36b) and projection (45). In this condition, the connecting terminal (12) has been completely inserted into the housing (14) and a firm retaining can be attained. <IMAGE>
