The seedlings are protected against blowflies by a device comprising a binder layer applied around the lower section of the seedling, onto which a layer of particulate material is applied. Preferably a further layer of particulate material is provided on top of this first particulate layer. - The guard is made by transporting cassettes (1) containing parallel rows (2) of seedlings (3) through a casing (5) with a slot (55) for each seedling, so that the seedling growth zone lies outside the casing. The spray ramp (60,63,80,83) is arranged alternately along the length of the housing so that as the seedlings are moved through the housing they are first of all coated with binder and then with particulate material inside the casing. - (Dwg.1/1) |
