PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for recovering tertiary-butyl alcohol from an olefin mixture in which isobutylene in an olefin mixture containing n-butene and isobutylene is selectively hydrated in the presence of an aqueous solution containing heteropolyacid that have at least one kind of elements selected from No, W and V as a fused ligand element to produce tertiary-butyl alcohol and the resultant tertiary-butyl alcohol is isolated and purified by the distillation operations and the distillation operation can be done stably and continuously by suppressing the foaming in the distillation column. SOLUTION: In the presence of an aqueous solution containing heteropoly acid that have at least one kind of elements selected from Mo, W and V as a fused ligand one, isobutylene in a olefin mixture containing n-butene and isobutylene is selectively hydrated to produce tertiary butyl alcohol. The aqueous phase containing tertiary butyl alcohol is separated from the remaining hydrocarbon phase and the isobutyl alcohol is isolated and purified by distilling from the aqueous phase where the concentration of tertiary butyl alcohol is adjusted to 0.2-10 wt.% in the distillation column. |
