PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnesia-carbonaceous prepared unshaped refractory excellent in durability. SOLUTION: This magnesia-carbonaceous prepared unshaped refractory is obtained by adding 5-200 pts.wt. of refractory coarse grains composed of an electrofused magnesia raw material and having >=500 μm crystal grain diameter of magnesia and a pitch and/or a phenol resin in an amount of 0.3-5 pts.wt. expressed in terms of the amount of fixed carbon to 100 pts.wt. of a refractory aggregate containing 80-98 wt.% of a magnesia raw material and 2-20 wt.% of a carbon raw material.
