PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a printer in which the setting of post-processing is not released immediately when the processing function of a machine does not match the set processing conditions of post-processing but the machine processing function answers other processing conditions, if any, requested by a user. SOLUTION: When the machine function does not match a staple position set for a print job (S205), a user is asked for execution under alternative processing conditions (alteration of staple position) where the machine function can be supported (S206) and print processing is executed under the alternative conditions according to a designation of the user (S208). When the user answers that print processing is not executed under alternative conditions or the user does not answer within a specified time, staple mode is released (S209) before starting print operation.
