PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a die for optical elements having good release property with which optical elements can be obtained at a low cost and to provide a method for manufacturing optical elements by using the die and a method for manufacturing the die for optical elements. SOLUTION: The die 11 for optical elements is to be used for press forming an optical element material 31 which is a glass material and the die satisfies the relation ofα1/α2<=0.26, whereinα1 is the average coefficient of thermal expansion of the die 11 for optical elements in the temperature range from 100 deg.C to 500 deg.C andα2 is the average coefficient of thermal expansion of the optical element material 31 in the range from the glass transition temperature to the yielding temperature. Thereby, the release property of the optical element material 31 from the die 11 for optical elements is improved and a wide application range as the die can be maintained.
