The circuit includes a semiconductor switch (10) connected in series with a voltage limiter device (12), and designed so that it conducts when a first criterion is met, and is non-conducting when a second criterion is met. The first criterion relates to the voltage applied to the switch increasing above a threshold and/or the rate of increase of the voltage. The second criterion relates to a drop in the current flowing through the switch falling below a threshold and/or the rate of fall of the voltage across the switch.
