PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of protecting keratinous fibers from extrinsic damage and/or repairing keratinous fibers damaged by extrinsic conditions, wherein the extrinsic damage is damage that is caused by conditions such as sun, chemical damage, e.g., by detergents, bleaching, relaxing, hair dyeing and permanent waving, as well as damage caused by conditions, e.g., heat from hair dryers or curlers. SOLUTION: A composition containing at least one sugar selected from the group consisting of 3-5C monosaccharides and their derivatives is applied to keratinous fibers.
