<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive bicomponent fiber having excellent capillary action, absorption and filtering properties, used for a porous element. <P>SOLUTION: The bicomponent fiber is obtained by producing a sheath-core bicomponent fiber comprising a core of a low-cost, high strength, thermoplastic material, completely covered with a sheath formed of polyethylene terephthalate or a copolymer thereof, and carrying out a melt blown processing. The self-sustaining, three-dimensional, porous element suitable for an ink reservoir for a writing instrument and a tobacco smoke filter is formed of this filter. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
