<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device including a plurality of heat generation means, which generate heat by receiving power supplied from a commercial power source and an auxiliary power source charged by the commercial power source and each of which has different distributions of heat generation in the width direction of a sheet, to provide an image forming apparatus such as a copying machine, facsimile, or printer, which has this fixing device, to provide a fixing method using such a plurality of heat generation means, and to provide an image forming method using them. <P>SOLUTION: The fixing device uses: the heat generation means 63 for generating heat by receiving power supplied from the commercial power source; the heat generation means 64 that generates heat by receiving power supplied from the auxiliary power source 83 charged by the commercial power source; and a temperature detection means 88 for detecting the temperatures of the heat generation means 63 and 64. The heat generation means 63 has heat generation parts 63a and 63b that differ from each other in the distribution of heat generation in the width direction of a sheet.
