PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat fiber for a pile fabric, capable of expressing a soft feeling by the pile fabric by fusing a low yarn stress with the low flexible stiffness of the flat cross sectional yarn, and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This flat fiber for a fleece pile fabric is provided with that≥80 mol.% of the polymer components constituting the fiber is constituted by a polyethylene terephthalate unit, and the cross sectional surface crossing at right angle to a single fiber axis has a flat cross section, and satisfies the following (1) to (4) requirements. (1) The flat form has a form of joining the 3 to 6 pieces of circular cross sectional single fibers linearly in its longer axis direction, and the ratio of the length A (longer axis) of the maximum diameter of the flat cross sectional fiber to the length B (shorter axis) of the maximum diameter crossing at right angle to the longer axis, i.e., its flatness (A/B) is 3 to 6. (2) Stress value at 10% elongation is≤1.0 cN/dTex. (3) Boiling water shrinkage is≤8%. (4) Antimony content is≤1.0 ppm based on the total weight of the fiber. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
