PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress generation frequency of head crash and thermal asperity while impact resistance of a glass substrate is enhanced. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of a glass substrate for a disk like magnetic recording medium includes a step for filling cracks formed in end parts 3 and 4 of the glass substrate 1 with a binder which can be chemically bonded to the glass substrate 1 and a mirror surface polishing step for polishing the end parts 3 and 4 of the glass substrate 1 where the cracks are filled with the binder into a mirror surface state.
