PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the speed of identification processing. SOLUTION: This category identification method calculates a function value in response to a relation between an identification object and a support vector contributing to an identification boundary, calculates an integrated value integrated with the function values for the respective support vectors, and identifies that the identification object does not belong to a specified category, when the integrated value is smaller than a threshold value. The integrated value is calculated by integrating the function values having a positive value, and by integrating thereafter the function values having a negative value, and the identification object is identified not to belong the specified category, without integrating the residual function values, when the integrated value gets smaller than the threshold value.
