The method involves coupling a belt-wheel (11) with a driven shaft (12) of a motor (2) of an electromechanical steering (1). Another belt-wheel (13) is coupled with a ball screw nut of a bell screw, where the ball screw nut is in threaded engagement with a steering rack (5) by balls and is axially fixed at a housing. The rack opposite to the housing is tilted after fitting of a belt (10) on the belt-wheel when a bearing of the nut is unfixed at the housing, until a preset belt pretensioning force is obtained. The bearing is fixed at the housing in the tilting position.
