PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of making individual focus adjustment on a plurality of objects, even if there are a plurality of objects in a specific focusing detection region. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus 10 comprises an optical device 11, a focus driver 12, an image sensor 13, an image processing part 14, an image display part 15, a touch panel 16, a target object determining part 17, and a specified area focusing detector 18. An operator specifies a specific area from among a plurality of focusing detection areas on the touch panel 16, while targeting at an image display on the image display part 15. Based on the specified operation procedure, the noted object determining part 17 determines a target object from among the objects in the specific area, and the specified region focusing detector 18 detects a signal component for evaluating the focusing degree from the image signal in the specific area and computes a focusing evaluation value. The focus driver 12 sets priority to the distance adjustment of a focusing point, based on the determined result over the focusing evaluation value computed by the specified region focusing detector 18.
