PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device that can contact/separate from a pressure member, deal with a variation of the position of the surface of the pressure member, and separate a recording material wound around the pressure member while suppressing an adverse effect on the pressure member, and an image forming apparatus.SOLUTION: A fixing device includes: a fixing member; a pressure member that forms a fixing nip part with the fixing member; heating means for heating the fixing member; a pressure-application and separation member that can contact/separate from the pressure member with a contact/separation mechanism; a separation pawl that can deal with a variation of the position of the surface of the pressure member with a dealing mechanism and attached to the pressure-application and separation member, and causes a recording material carrying an unfixed image to pass through the fixing nip part to fix the image. When performing double-sided paper feed of the recording material, the fixing device brings the pressure-application and separation member into contact with the pressure member and separates a recording material wound around the pressure member from the pressure member with the separation pawl.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 |
