PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active light hardening type ink composition capable of recording with stability under various printing circumstances a high-precision image excellent in printed character quality and free from color blending and hardened wrinkles, and to provide an image forming method and an inkjet recording apparatus using the same.

SOLUTION: In this active light hardening type ink composition which comprises a photoinitiator and a photopolymerizable compound, the photoinitiator is an onium salt having a logPow (Pow: distribution coefficient between 1-octanol and water) of <1.0.
