Provided are a release film having superior smoothness and anti-blocking performance and a method of manufacturing the release film. The release film (1) of the present invention includes: a substrate (11) consisting of a polyester film; and a release agent layer (12) formed by applying a composition for forming a release agent layer to one surface (11a) of the substrate (11). The substrate (11) has an arithmetic average roughness (Ra) of 5 to 40 nm, and a maximum projection height (Rp) of 50 to 1000 nm. The release agent layer (12) has a thickness of 0.05 to 0.35 m and cohesive energy of the release agent layer (12) calculated from a force curve measured using an atomic force microscope is 15 to 35 mJ/m^2. |
