PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for operating a filtration system and a filtration system capable of preventing hydrogen sulfide and the like from flowing outside a filtration tank even when air is sprayed to a floating filter medium layer to align a floating filter medium after completion of backwashing the floating filter medium layer.SOLUTION: A filtration system comprises a filtration tank which includes a floating filter medium layer, a screen for preventing the outflow of a floating filter medium, a raw water inflow port and a backwash effluent discharge port, and a filtrate water storage part. The method for operating a filtration system includes the steps of: passing raw water through the floating filter medium layer in an upflow manner to filter the raw water; after the filtering step, discharging water in the filtration tank to backwash the floating filter medium layer in a downflow manner; after the backwashing step, supplying substitute water to the filtration tank to substitute a part of water in the filtration tank; and after the substituting step, spraying gas to the floating filter medium layer to align the floating filter medium. The filtration system is suitable for performing the operation method. |
