In an exemplary embodiment, a hearing article described herein includes a tether having a first end attached to a first hearing device, a first acoustic decoupling section proximate the first end, and a substantially straight intermediate section. The acoustic decoupling section comprises a predetermined shape.

1. A hearing-protective article, comprising:
first and second earplugs; and a tether having a first end attached to the first earplug and a second end attached to the second earplug; wherein the tether includes a first acoustic decoupling section proximate the first end, a second acoustic decoupling section proximate the second end, and a substantially straight intermediate section between the first and second acoustic decoupling sections, the first and second acoustic decoupling sections comprising first and second predetermined shapes, and wherein the first acoustic decoupling section, the second acoustic decoupling section, and the substantially straight intermediate section between the first and second acoustic decoupling sections, are all sections of a tether that is in the form of a single cord with the first and second acoustic decoupling sections and the substantially straight intermediate section integrally formed therein, and wherein the single cord is a non-metallic cord that comprises a solid cross-section and that does not include a metallic core.
