The winding provides layered coils without spaces between layers. The wire is guided to the coil layer over a guide pulley from a storage spool and is coiled there onto a coil-former, or on a previously wound coil layer. The wire guide pulley is displayed by a feeder in the direction of each wound coil layer such that the respective guide pulley legs by a preset follower angle (alpha, alpha'). The angle is monitored for measured by a sensor. If this angle is too large (alpha plus), or too small (alpha minus), the sensor transmits a setting signal (S), or a setting signal train for accelerating or decelerating the feed until a correct follower angle is obtained. Pref. a higher feed speed is applied than would be needed w.r.t. the extension of the wound layer.
