Enhancing the perceived strength of tobacco smoke

Perceived strength of a smoking article is enhanced by the inclusion in that article of a metal borate such as an alkali metal borate, especially sodium tetraborate decahydrate. The additive is preferably in the filter of such an article, of which the tobacco is preferably flue-cured.
