<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which operation modes can be easily switched even by a person without any special knowledge. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus main body 10 is provided with two or more operation modes and an image is formed on a recording medium by using an exchange part 20 attached detachably. Information for switching operation modes to switch the operation mode in the apparatus main body 10 is retained beforehand in an exchange part 20.
