The invention relates to a device (10) for sealing an annulus (11) delimited by an inner body and an outer body (12, 13), for sealing pipes, cables, channels or similar in relation to protection pipes, wall channels or similar. Said device is provided with the following: a sealing element (20) which extends over the periphery of the annulus (11) and fills the annulus on the peripheral side; pressure elements (24, 25) which extend on the axially outer front surfaces of the sealing element (20) and clamping means (23) which interact with the pressure element (24, 25) and which axially penetrate the sealing element (20), for axially compressing and radially expanding the sealing element (20). The aim of the invention is to guarantee closeness with greater diameter tolerances and bushing, pipe and bore diameters that have been worked less than optimally, and an appropriate tightness in the event of subsequent settling phenomena. To this end, a layer (29, 30) of hydrophilic rubber which is exposed on the outer and/or inner peripheral side is introduced into the sealing element (20), which consists of an elastomer material and/or between two axially adjacent sealing elements (20) consisting of an elastomer material.
