PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a color image processor in which a dot area is detected easily through a simple arrangement by extracting edge information from input image data. SOLUTION: A dot area recognizing section 20 stores block 1 of image data consisting of some one point (a remarked pixel 1) of the image data and a plurality of neighboring pixels in a block memory A22, an edge decision circuit 23 decides the edge of the remarked pixel 1 in block 1 and stores an edge decision signal in a block memory B24. In the block memory B24 storing the edge decision signal, block 2 consisting of some one point (a remarked pixel 2) of the image data and a plurality of neighboring pixels is set. A feature amount calculating section 25 calculates a feature amount for the remarked pixel 2 or the block 2. An identification circuit 26 identifies dots of the remarked pixel 2 or the block 2 based on a feature amount calculated by the feature amount calculating section 25. These processing steps are repeated for each pixel of the image data.
