A plurality of embodiments of a flexible, discrete valve seat according to the present invention are provided for use in a high-purity valve. In one embodiment, the valve seat is retained in contact with a sealing surface on the valve body. In other embodiments, the valve seat can be retained by the actuating valve member, such as by a threaded connection, or via a welded connection. A high purity valve is provided having a flexible discrete valve seat that seals over an area of contact and is useful for many dynamic valve cycles. The valve seat according to the present invention can be metallic and of an intermediate hardness relative to the other sealing components, namely the valve member or diaphragm and the valve body.
