PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyhydroxyalkanoate(PHA) type polyester having a side chain comprising an aromatic ring to which a vinyl substituent is bonded, specifying it as a new PHA type polyester having biodegradability, and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The PHA type polyester is characterized by containing a 3- hydroxy-ω-(4-vinylphenyl) alkanoic acid unit in the molecule by the total content ratio of >= one unit %, and the method for producing the PHA type polyester containing the unit is carried out by using a microorganism having the ability to produce the PHA from aω-(4-vinylphenyl) alkanoic acid as a starting material.
