PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve operability by eliminating the need of a protection setting operation for each mail and to surely protect the mail of a preservation object by preventing protection setting from being forgotten to be performed. SOLUTION: By a protection condition registration control function 51, the item of a telephone book or mail header information is selectively utilized and the conditions of the mail to be a protection object are inputted and registered in a protection condition registration memory 6b beforehand. Then, when preserving received mail or already transmitted mail or the mail during transmission standby in a mail preservation memory 6a, by a protection setting control function 52, the header information item of the mail of the preservation object is compared with the protection conditions registered in the protection condition registration memory 6b. Then, when the mail of the preservation object matches with one of the protection conditions, the mail is judged as the protection object and the mail is stored in the mail preservation memory 6a after the protection setting is performed.
