PURPOSE: A portable electronic device comprising a camera and a data inputting method thereof are provided to extract/recognize image data as editable character data by using a histogram method, thereby easily inputting data by using the recognized character data while more effectively using a multimedia function. CONSTITUTION: A camera(110) obtains image data. A microprocessor(102) receives the obtained image data to process images, and extracts character data from the image data. A memory(104) stores the image data and/or the character data. A display device(108) outputs characters to edit the outputted characters. The microprocessor(102) comprises as follows. An image processor discriminates at least one cell including image characters from the obtained image data. An image recognizer extracts the image characters, and converts the image characters into editable character data.
