<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which is easy to use such that a user can recognize at a glance whether a foot switch is operable or not. <P>SOLUTION: A display operation section 3 is disposed on the upper face of the main body of the image forming apparatus A. In the display operation section 3, a message part 3b, a selection key area 3c, etc., are arranged. The condition of the apparatus, error messages, etc., are displayed on the message part 3b. In the selection key area 3c, a foot switch effective key 3g is positioned. The foot switch effective key 3g is a switching key by which the foot switch X switches between an operable condition and a non-operable condition.
