The hot rolled steel sheet for ceramic lining has improves fish-scale resistance, press formability and enameling properties. The aluminum killed steel slab comprises, in weight percent, not more than 0.1% carbon, 0.2 to 0.5% manganese, 0.05 to 0.15% sulfur, not more than 0.01% nitrogen, 0.01 to 0.1% aluminum, the balance being iron and inevitable impurities, and 0.58=Gmanganese/sulfur atomic ratio of over 2.0. The disclosed steel sheet is produced by the processes of reheating of the steel slab having the same chemical composition as mentioned above as a starting material to a temperature of lower than 1250deg.C, final hot rolling of the heated steel at 600 to 800deg.C and hot reeling of the hot rolled sheet at 500 to 600deg.C. It is useful in making hot water tank, chemical tank, and silos etc.
