MUSIC RECOGNITION METHOD AND RECORDING MEDIUM WHICH IS RECORDED WITH MUSIC RECOGNITION PROGRAM AND IS READABLE WITH COMPUTER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high recognition rate without erasing the staff by executing pattern matching of the characteristics of labels separately obtained by both right and left ends and respective meshes with the characteristics stored in a dictionary and recognizing the symbols having fixed positions on the staff or the staff at grids by music images. SOLUTION: The projection of an assigned block is determined (S4) and an assigned rectangular shape is decided as a label to extract the characteristic of this symbol (S8) and the block where the staff image does not overlap is set as a peripheral characteristic extraction block (S9). The peripheral characteristics are determined in plural degrees from the right and left ends in the respective extraction blocks (S10). Mesh blocks are then set (S11). The average value by each degree of the peripheral characteristics is determined and is decided as the characteristic quantity of each mesh block. The characteristic quantity determined by each of both right and left ends and each mesh is decided as the characteristic of the label (S12). The symbols having the fixed positions on the staff and the staff at the grids are recognized with the music images by the pattern matching with the characteristics stored in the dictionary (S13).
