The invention provides novel erythromycin A derivatives of the general formula I: wherein R1 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms; R2 is an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms or an unsubstituted or substituted aryl group; or R1 and R2 together form a linear or branched chain alkylene ring having 3 to 10 carbon atoms, an arylenealkylene group in which the alkylene moiety has 2 to 3 carbon atoms, or an arylenedialkylene group in which the alkylene moities have 1 to 2 carbon atoms; R3 is a substituted silyl group; and R4 is a hydrogen atom or substituted silyl group.
