PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly adjust the position of a magnetic head while finely adjusting the position by imparting external energy to a part, to which a prescribed external energy is to be supplied, in the base for supporting a magnetic head, bending the base to adjust the height position of the magnetic head relative to a rotary body, obtaining its resultant image and comparing it with a target height. SOLUTION: An external energy supply means 82 emits a laser beam L through a hole to the part (A) (B), where external energy is to be supplied, on the base for supporting the magnetic head 20 of a rotary upper drum 12 on a fixed lower drum 14. At the part (A), the base is bent to adjust the height position of the magnetic head 20 relative to the rotary upper drum 12 and then, a positioning means 84 provides the supply means 82 with positioning in the part (B). The height position of the magnetic head 20 varied by the supply means 82 is displayed by a monitor 146, and compared with a target height by a processing means 86, with an adjustment quantity obtained for the remaining required height position. Thus, the position of the magnetic head 20 can be properly adjusted while its height position is finely adjusted.
