Converting asbestos and asbestos-containing waste into a harmless crude material comprises crushing the asbestos and/or asbestos-containing waste with a heat-resistant clay and a porosity agent by pressing into pieces; grinding to obtain a granular material having a grain size of not more than 0.05 mm; extruding into fibers; drying; heat treating at 950-1250 deg C; and selecting and testing. Preferred Features: The clay is added in an amount of 34-35 weight %.
