The method involves shaping a round blank (5) in at least one deep drawing process to form a hood shape (7) with a radially extending base area (9), an axially extending side wall area (11) and a radially extending edge area (13). A circular passage (15) is formed in the base area. The side wall area is compressed axially and at the same time thickened radially too form a thickened hub (3).
