PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a wide image with high image quality by accurately connecting adjacent scanning boundaries dividedly scanned with respect to the fluctuation of optical path length in an optical scanner. SOLUTION: The respectively different deflecting surfaces of a common polygon mirror 4 are irradiated with light beams obtained by making three systems of light beams emitted from respective light sources consisting of three semiconductor lasers 1a, 2a and 3a pass through light guiding means respectively different to the light beams, and the respective light beams are separately deflected by the rotation of the mirror 4, and formed into images in different areas 1, 2 and 3 on the same surface to be scanned 5a by the individual image formation means, and the scanning area on the surface 5a is trisected in a main scanning direction and scanned.
