Methods and means for inhibiting fever

Microsomal prostaglandin E synthase-1 (m PGES-1) catalyses the terminal step in the synthesis of prostaglandin E₂ (PGE₂) in the brain. In the absence of mPGES-1, animals do not develop immune-induced fever, but retain a normal pyretic response to central administration of PGE₂. Inhibitors of PGES-1 can be used for treating fever and other PGE₂-dependent reactions. Assays for inhibitors of mPGES-1 are provided.
