<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spontaneous light emission display device which is improved in visibility of an image, regarding a display device having a display section by spontaneous light emission which is required to limit its power consumption to a constant value or below. <P>SOLUTION: A two-dimensional luminance gain generating section 102 and a luminance controller 103 control the luminance gain of an input image signal with a value which is not uniform across the screen of an EL display 104 according to the average current and target luminance of the input image signal 191 detected in an average current detection section 101.
