PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a thermoplastic resin composition efficiently containing a vegetable material in a high ratio of≥50 mass% and to provide a method for producing the molded article by using the thermoplastic resin composition. SOLUTION: The method for producing the composition containing a vegetable material (e.g. kenaf) and a thermoplastic resin (e.g. a polylactic acid resin) comprises a mixing step of mixing the vegetable material with the thermoplastic resin by a stirrer, wherein the vegitable material is contained in a ratio of 50-95 mass% when total of the vegetable material and the thermoplastic resin is defined as 100 mass%, and is composed of a first vegetable material consisting of granules having≥2 mm particle diameter and a second vegetable material composed of granules having≤1 mm particle diameter and/or fibrous material having≤5 mm length. The first vegetable material is contained in an amount of 1-40 mass% when total of the first vegetable material and the second vegetable material is defined as 100 mass%. The method for producing the molded article comprises carrying out extrusion molding or injection molding of the thermoplastic resin composition prepared by the method according to the present invention.
