A method for detecting a face using multithread in real time according to one embodiment of the present invention relates to a method for detecting a face in real time in a high resolution image, and comprises the steps of: receiving image data after determining a post-processing section, and determining a trace section; processing a face detection for a specific frame; storing a frame as much as the trace section for the frames that are input consecutively; generating a tracker by grasping the number and location of faces to be traced through the face detection processing value; performing a trace by accumulating and generating trackers continuously by using a face detection processing value during the trace section before a post-processing for consecutive frames is performed; performing a post-processing during the post-processing section for the generated tracker; and setting up a short face trace time in case there are a lot of movements after determining a users movement and setting up a long face trace time in case there is a few movements. The present invention is designed to provide a method for detecting a face using multithread in real time capable of improving the face detection function of a face detection unit by uniting a face detection unit and a face tracker and efficiently scheduling a multithread.
