Deoxynarasin(I) and 20-deoxy-17-epinarasin(II) were produced by submerged aerobic fermn. with Streptomyces aureofaciens NRRL 11181. Thus, a preculture of S. aureofaciens was inoculated into 100 medium contg. soybean meal 25, glucose 20, CaCO3 2, Na2SO410 H2O 1, FeSO47 H2O 0.6, MnCl24 H2O 0.3, ascorbic acid 0.018 g/l, soybean oil 20, and Me oleate 20 ml/l and was incubated at 30≦̸C for 10 hr with aeration and stirred. The pH was lowered to 3 and the broth shaken for 1 hr, filtered, extd. with MeOH contg. NaHCO3. The ext. was concd. and extd. with CHCl3. The CHCl3 ext. was dried and chromatographed on silica gel to sep. 83 mg I and 56 mg II.
